Clinical Psychology and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a fatal and progressive disease, characterized by progressive muscles weakness, with consequent loss of physical capacities. Psychologists can play an important role in ALS care, by providing clinical activities in every step of the disease, including support and counseling activities directed to patients, their caregivers and to physicians.

Case report. A 56-year-old woman presented clinical data of spinal and bulbar forms of ALS. Previously she was attended in several neurological centers. Results. In 2002 the pat...
متن کاملHow is edaravone effective against acute ischemic stroke and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis?
Edaravone is a low-molecular-weight antioxidant drug targeting peroxyl radicals among many types of reactive oxygen species. Because of its amphiphilicity, it scavenges both lipid- and water-soluble peroxyl radicals by donating an electron to the radical. Thus, it inhibits the oxidation of lipids by scavenging chain-initiating water-soluble peroxyl radicals and chain-carrying lipid peroxyl radi...

Touch MEdical MEdia 53 Fasciculation, which is observed in various peripheral motor neuron disorders, is most frequently found in nonprogressive benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS). Patients with BFS never exhibit muscle atrophy or pathologic weakness and not all such patients visit hospitals; therefore, the prevalence and characteristics of BFS still need to be established. However, among the ...
متن کامل[Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis].
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, degenerative disease of the motor system characterized by signs and symptoms of upper and lower motor dysfunction.
